The One Health Institute Lab functions as a service facility for the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Network and as the central research facility for the PREDICT project, which aims to halt emerging diseases of pandemic potential.

Marine Ecosystem Health Laboratory

The Marine Ecosystem Health Diagnostic and Surveillance Laboratory (MEHDS) accept samples for diagnostic testing in support of wildlife biologists, marine animal scientists, and marine animal clinicians. Submit a sample or follow the links on the left for more detailed information.

With PREDICT, we are conducting global surveillance to detect and prevent spillover of pathogens of pandemic potential that can move between wildlife and people.

As an integral part of the project, our lab tests samples from countries in Latin America, Asia, and Africa where samples are being taken in targeted areas of the world. Through this work, we are able to detect known and novel pathogens in tandem, rather than sequentially. These tactics help reduce the spread of viruses that could lead to illness, epidemics and pandemics in people.

The OHI lab, located on the UC Davis campus, is part of a global network of labs in 20 countries.
