    Research Focus

    Small Animal Gastroenterology. 1) Assessment and management of canine dysphagia (swallowing disorders). 2) Diagnosis and management of chronic enteropathies (intestinal disorders) in dogs and cats.

    Specialty Focus

    Small Animal Gastroenterology. Emphasis on 1) dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and esophageal disease. 2) Chronic enteropathies (intestinal disorders) of dogs and cats with emphasis on infectious enteropathies.

McCarthy who was awarded the American College of Veterinary Pathology (ACVP) Young Investigator Award, First Place in Diagnostic Pathology Category for her research poster presented at the conference.     2014-2015 Awarded 1st prize for the best overall research poster presented at the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa from September 16-19. Marks SL. Effect of the probiotic enterococcus faecium sf 68 on presence of diarrhea in weanling kittens.
    2013-2014 Mentor for STAR student, Tarini Ullal, who received 1st prize for the best oral presentation in veterinary medicine at the annual Interdisciplinary Graduate and Professional Student Symposium (IGPS) at UC Davis, April 3-4. Her research assessed the feasibility of esophageal high resolution manometry in fully awake dogs and evaluated the effect of cisapride on lower esophageal sphincter tone.
